Savannah?s non-Halloween events

October 29th, 2008 · No Comments

Knocking around Savannah during this ‘ghostly’ time of the year is a great deal of fun.

While this elegant Southern city is known for its haunted houses and its fabulous restaurants — it is also recognized for its lively visual and performing arts community.

Here are a few of the places on my dance card during this long weekend visit.

Silhouettes and Savannah Scenes: Works by Helen Hatch Inglesby
A selection of works by Helen Hatch Inglesby, a lifelong Savannah resident, Helen Hatch Inglesby (1914-1999). Inglesby was an artist best known for her silhouettes, but she was equally adept in drawing, watercolor and oils.  For more information go to Telfair Academy of Arts

Return to the 50’s - Live at the Savannah Theatre
Return to America’s most beloved decade of music, when every song on the radio was a hit at The Savannah Theatre - 222 Bull St.

Savannah Film Festival
A premier eight-day cultural event in beautiful historic downtown Savannah, the festival features more than 50 films selected from more than 600 entries submitted from all over the world. Categories include feature, short, animation, documentary and student film. The screenings represent a variety of independent filmmakers, while an array of workshops, lectures, receptions and special events gives the festival participants an opportunity to meet colleagues active in all areas of film production.

For more information, call (912) 525.5050 or visit www.scad.edu/filmfest.

The BIG SHOW/Savannah – Celebrating the Spirit of Savannah
The community and family-oriented offering is set for Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. This year’s theme is ’Live Green – Save the Planet.’

The BIG SHOW/Savannah is reaching beyond borders to showcase the best of all cultures, customs and traditions. It is a celebration of the global family. Come on board, be a part of this history making event in bringing people together.

27th Annual Savannah Seafood Festival
There will be live entertainment featuring headlining zydeco bands. The event also includes a vintage boat show.
